How long have you been in business?
NIGMA Construction began in 1982 under the name of NIGMA Corp as a joint venture with a number of international engineering and construction firms. For over 25 years we evolved from an Airport System supplier to a full system integrator and Turnkey Contractor for airport and other complex government owned infrastructure projects overseas. When the financial crisis if 1987 hit we evolved from engineers and contractors to financial engineers finding free market solutions for development projects, developing, among other innovations, the successful model of "Build-Operate & Transfer" employed in private-public joint ventures globally today and first applied in the first concession of an airport in Mexico in 1993. Since, we have separated our business units into NIGMA Capital & Finance, LLC, which runs a Real Estate Private Equity Investment Fund and provides development advisory services, and NIGMA Construction Corp. which as a fully certified General Contractor provides a broad platform of construction services from Pre-construction advisory, to Construction Management and Design-Build Services.
What is your primary product or service?
NIGMA Construction is a State Certified General Contractor, we provide pre-construction advisory services, construction management, design-build construction, and general contracting services. Our services are available on a fully integrated development plan option or as limited engagement to supplement our clients' own in-house resources.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
When we started we focus on satisfying a need in the market place for a knowledgeable source that could provide a system with components from multiple different suppliers and guarantee its operation. Overtime we discover that our clients were not capable of specifying their own needs so we integrated backwards to meet this need. Later we found that the market lack the experience and expertise to install and operate the systems so we integrated forward. Eventually, we enjoyed enough economies of scale and integrated knowhow that it was far more economical to engage us to perform the entire project than forthem to attempt to integrate all the resources and subcontractors necessary and make the project work. My background includes a Bachelors degree in science with concentration in Physics and Mathematics, a Master Degree in Systems Development and Integration, both from Indiana University Bloomington, and another Master Degree in Financial Management from the University of London. I began my career in the application engineering department of Manville Corp and later started the International Div. of Crouse Hinds, a division of Cooper Industries.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We look at the world as a Gestalt, where the whole is bigger than the sum of its parts and we focus on optimizing results to meet our customers' expectation of success. To achieve these objectives it is necessary to integrate many different disciplines in order to find the optimal equilibrium between the declared success criteria and all its constraints. Because of our academic backgrounds and broad experience, we have the expertise to integrate construction engineering and financial engineering science to optimize outcomes, and to use financial and mathematical controls to institute risk management strategies that prevent the development or construction process to deviate significantly from defined results. Since we align our interests with those of our clients, we eliminate most of the asymmetry of information, agency and moral hazards integral to traditional methods of construction and development contracting.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We currently have operations in Mexico, Texas and North Dakota. We are looking forward to new construction and development opportunities in Central Florida as the local economy improves.
Which areas do you service?
We are global in scope having completed projects in 17 different countries. Our main consideration is markets that are demand driven.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Mr. Carlos Crespo is the Founder and principal shareholder of NIGMA Construction Corp. and the NIGMA Family of Companies.
