MTC provides vocational, employment and residential services we provide to people with disabilities
MacDonald Training Center is dedicated to continuously improving the quality of the vocational, employment and residential services we provide to people with disabilities.
Our History: MacDonald Training Center (MTC) was founded in 1953 by J. Clifford MacDonald and a group of visionary parents of individuals with developmental disabilities. At a time when the only alternative to being sent to a state institution was to sit at home and do nothing, these individuals rejected both options and proceeded to create innovative educational, vocational and residential alternatives.
Our Purpose : For 6 decades, MacDonald Training Center continues to be a leader and innovator in services to people with developmental disabilities. MTC strives to shatter the barriers to independence which face people with disabilities. In an effort to increase independence and community integration, MTC was one of the first organizations in Florida to develop supported employment and supported living services as alternatives to sheltered workshops and traditional group homes.
Our Services :Today, MTC’s primary areas of service include educational, vocational and residential supports for adults with disabilities. MTC ‘s day services includes vocational skills training and life enrichment activities from computer lab and fine arts to nutrition and fitness instruction. While we have on-going business contracts with many local firms, our largest vocational skills training contract is to package and ship the SunPass transponder for the Florida Department of Transportation. To date we have successfully shipped over 6 million transponders with less than one percent error rate.
In addition to services to adults with developmental disabilities, MTC provides supported employment counseling and placement services for people with a wide variety of disabilities including hearing impairments and many other challenges. We have successfully placed over 4,000 people with disabilities into community based employment since 1971.
In order to fulfill our mission and provide opportunities for the people we serve, MTC actively seeks to be an integral part of the Tampa Bay business community. We are guided by an engaged and committed Board of Directors and an exceptionally well developed Business Advisory Council (BAC). This core group of private business sector professionals continually guides MTC providing progressive, innovative, and effective services to both the persons served and the business community.
